Time Magazine Releases List of 100 Most Influential People

Surprised? Predictable? Four of our favourites from Time Magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people

Time Magazine released their annual list of the yesterday, and we couldn’t help but notice a few of our favourites made the cut. Plus, we were so pleased to see that our Deep Style columnist, Sheila Heti, made the short list. Congratulations, Sheila!

Writer, director and actor Lena Dunham is an inspiration to 20-something women (and women of all ages, really) trying to navigate their role and cement their place in society. This year, Dunham won the Directors Guild Award for Outstanding Director for her series Girls, making her the first woman ever to win the award, as well as the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy and Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy.

Twenty-two-year old Jennifer Lawrence (and former FLARE cover girl) first made a name for herself in 2010 after a riveting Oscar-nominated performance in the film Winter’s Bone. She stepped onto the red carpet at the 2011 awards show in a body-hugging red Calvin Klein dress, and she’s been on best-dressed lists ever since. The new face of Miss Dior made our 2013 Oscar Best Dressed list in a dramatic white Dior gown where she won Best Actress for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.

It’s no surprise womenswear designer Michael Kors, who will soon be expanding his luxury brand with a new beauty line, made the list. In December 2011, shares of his stock sold for almost $1 billion when the company went public and in 2010 he became the youngest designer to receive the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award. Clearly the award was premature as Kors promises to continue building his international empire.

The world’s most popular princess, Kate Middleton, made the list for the second year in a row. The Duchess of Cambridge supports and contributes to many charities and makes numerous public appearances, looking impeccable, if not a tad conservative. Read about all things Kate in our Royal Style section. The world is now on royal baby watch as the mom-to-be will give birth to the next heir to the throne in July.

Some of the other inspirational people that appear on the list include Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Michelle Obama, Christina Aguilera and Jenna Lyons.
