Party Report: The Society's Smut Soiree

We go shoe-spotting at the annual gossip fest

We recently attended the Smut Soiree, The Society’s annual dish-athon with Lainey Gossip, held at the Evergreen Brickworks in Toronto. Amanda Blakley and Ashleigh Dempster’s annual event always brings out a well-dressed crowd and the shoe-spotting was especially top notch. We laid eyes on a couple of pairs of the FLARE shoe, as well as the now-iconic fruit-covered platforms from Charlotte Olympia. (Attendees were vying for a $2,000 gift card from the Bay for the best look–a prize that went to Ela Kowalewska, designer of the chic-chic Ela handbag line, and her Pierre Hardy heels.)

We took a break from shoe-gazing to take in a little gossip. In the absence of her usual co-host, Dan Levy, Lainey brought her co-conspirators, Sasha Tong, Duana Taha and Sarah Marrs, who contribute to the site. Emboldened, perhaps, by cocktails made with Absolut’s new Orient Apple vodka or an indulgent amount of Wine Gums and Fuzzy Peach sweets from the candy bar, audience members lined up to ask questions about Tom Cruise, Jennifer Aniston, et al. While nothing earth-shattering was revealed, regular readers of the site were rewarded with extra tidbits. The four panelists filled the crowd of 600 in on blind items from the site and shared their own celeb experiences. (Lady Gaga? Not a diva–at least to the press.) Any more, we cannot share. The gossip hounds among you will just have to go next year.
