“Starships” by Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj hits the beach in her new video for “Starships.” The video begins with UFOs circling a lush Hawaiian island looking for a soft spot to land. While the natives lie on the beach, Minaj gets beamed down into the shallow waters sporting green hair and a sexy pink bathing suit. The video ends with the rapper partying hard with her Barbz jumping up and down, fist-pumping and dancing the night away. Verdict: Not as super as “Super Bass.” The video is bright and colourful–just like Minaj. If only the concept lived up to her originality.

“Princess of China” by Coldplay feat. Rihanna

Chris Martin recently called Rihanna “the third-most beautiful woman in the world” (first was wife Gwyneth Paltrow, and second was, um, Gwyneth). In her Geisha-Goth goddess garb in Coldplay’s “Princess of China” video, Rihanna certainly lives up to the praise. Standing alone, RiRi rocks some serious gold talons and waves an infinite number of arms in a Bollywood-style routine. Coldplay is absent from the video, but for good reason–the video will be used as a backdrop for the band’s live performances. Verdict: Simple is good. The video might just be Rihanna, but with styling this strong, what more do you want?

“Blue Jeans” (Smims & Belle remix) by Lana del Rey feat. Azealia Banks

Lana del Rey and Azealia Banks got remixed. The long overdue mash-up of the new artists was created by Mark Foster and Isom Innis, two members of the band Foster The People. The duo are working on a side DJ project called Smims&Belle and their first track is a rework of Lana Del Rey’s hit “Blue Jeans”. The track is an electro club take on the soulful hit while Azealia Banks raps. Verdict: There’s a reason del Rey and Banks are instant superstars. Although the songs are not new, del Rey’s crooning voice and Banks’ aggressive rapping are a match made in heaven.–Erin Fitzsimmons
